Guide

The leather skirt guide

Straight answers on lengths, leather types, fit and styling, so you know what to look for when our skirts arrive.

How a leather skirt should fit

A leather skirt should sit flat at the waist without digging in and skim the hips without pulling across them. Horizontal creases at the hip mean it is too tight. Leather gives a little with wear but does not stretch like fabric, so choose the fit you want on the first day. Made to measure takes the guesswork out of it.

Mini, midi or maxi?

Shorter skirts suit boots and tights and keep an outfit casual. A midi is the most versatile length and works with flat shoes or heels. A maxi makes a long, strong line and looks best with a jacket that ends at the waist. Think about where you will wear the skirt most often, and pick the length that suits those days.

Croc-embossed leather explained

Croc-embossed leather is real leather with a crocodile pattern pressed into the surface by heat. It has the look of an exotic skin without using one. The raised texture catches the light and hides small marks well, which makes it a practical choice for a long skirt that brushes against things. Care for it the same way as smooth leather.

Measuring for made to measure

Measure your waist where you want the skirt to sit, then the fullest part of your hips. For length, measure from that waistline down to where you want the hem to fall, standing straight in the shoes you plan to wear. Measure over light clothing, keep the tape level and send the numbers to us.

How to style a leather skirt

For the daytime, wear a leather skirt with a fine knit or a plain T-shirt tucked in, and flat boots. In the evening, change to a silk blouse and heels. A cropped leather jacket on top turns it into a full leather look; keep the colours close for a sleek finish, or contrast them for more impact.

Looking after a leather skirt

Hang your skirt by the waistband rather than folding it, which can leave creases. If it gets wet, let it dry naturally at room temperature, never on a radiator. Store it out of direct sunlight and avoid plastic covers; a breathable cotton bag is better. Our care guide has more detail on keeping leather in good condition.

Buying guide

Women's leather skirts, made to order

Our women's leather skirts are made from real leather and made to order, like everything we sell. The first piece, a black croc-embossed leather maxi skirt, is available now. This page explains how to choose a leather skirt, how to wear one with a leather jacket and what to expect from made to measure, delivery and returns.

Why a made-to-order leather skirt?

A skirt depends on the waist and hip more than almost any other piece, and standard sizes often fit one but not the other. Because we make each skirt after you order, we can cut it to your waist, hip and length measurements at no extra cost, so it sits where you want it and falls where you choose.

Choosing a length

Leather skirts generally come in three lengths, and each suits a different kind of day:

  • Mini: sits well above the knee. Easy with tights and boots in the colder months.
  • Midi: falls below the knee and works for the office as well as the evening.
  • Maxi: reaches the ankle or close to it. Our first skirt is a black croc-embossed maxi, a long, strong line that looks good with a short jacket.

Croc-embossed or smooth leather?

Smooth leather is plain and easy to dress up or down. Croc-embossed leather has a crocodile pattern pressed into real leather by heat, which adds texture and catches the light. No exotic skin is used. It hides small marks well and pairs best with simple tops.

How to wear a leather skirt with a cropped jacket

A jacket that ends at the waist balances a long skirt. Wear the maxi with the black collarless jacket for head-to-toe black, or contrast it with the chocolate brown croc-embossed biker. For colour, the emerald cropped biker or the red Michelle jacket stand out against black. The black cropped jacket is the plainest option. Browse the full women's collection, or pair a jacket with leather trousers instead.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Are your skirts real leather?
Yes. Every piece we make is real leather or real suede. The croc pattern on our maxi skirt is pressed into the leather; no exotic skin is used.
Can I order a leather skirt now?
Yes. Our black croc-embossed leather maxi skirt is available now and is made to order for you, in your usual size or to your measurements. More styles will follow, so keep an eye on our new arrivals collection.
How does made to measure work for a skirt?
Select Made to measure on the product page and enter your waist, hip and length measurements, or send them by email or WhatsApp. If you leave them blank and add the skirt to your cart, we will email you before we start. It costs nothing extra.
How long does delivery take?
Each piece is made to order and dispatched within 9–14 days. Delivery usually takes 12–18 days from purchase.
Do you deliver outside the UK?
Yes. UK delivery is free, the US is £25, and the EU, Canada, Australia, the Middle East and the rest of the world are £30. Some countries, such as Canada and Switzerland, may collect import charges on delivery.
Can I return a skirt?
Standard sizes can be returned within 30 days for a refund or exchange, and you pay the return postage. Made-to-measure pieces cannot be returned.
Is the croc-effect leather skirt real crocodile?
No. Our croc-effect skirt is real calf leather, 0.99 to 1 mm thick, pressed with a crocodile pattern. This is called croc-embossed leather. It gives you the crocodile look with the softness and easier care of calf leather.
