Guide

The women's leather jacket guide

Straight answers to the questions we hear most, from fit and leather types to wearing in a new jacket.

How a leather jacket should fit

A leather jacket should sit close at the shoulders without pulling across the back when you reach forward. Sleeves should end around the wrist bone with your arms relaxed. Our cropped bikers are cut close to the body and true to size, so if you plan to wear a chunky knit underneath, go up a size or send us your measurements.

Cropped or longer?

Cropped jackets sit at the waist or just above the hip, which suits high-waisted trousers, jeans, skirts and dresses. They show the line of the waist and keep an outfit light. Longer pieces, such as the trench coat, cover tailoring and keep more of you warm. Many women own one of each and wear them in different seasons.

What croc-embossed leather is

Our croc-embossed jackets are genuine calf leather with a crocodile pattern pressed into the surface by heat. No exotic skin is used. The raised texture catches the light and hides small marks well, and it gives a simple shape, such as a cropped biker or a collarless jacket, more depth. You care for it in the same way as smooth leather.

Choosing a colour

Black goes with everything and is the easiest first jacket. Chocolate brown is softer and looks good with cream, camel and denim. Burgundy and emerald green add colour but are dark enough to wear every day; emerald works almost as a neutral with grey, cream and denim. Red is the boldest choice and sits best against black, denim or white.

How to wear a women's leather jacket

Wear a cropped jacket over a slip dress, or with high-waisted jeans and a plain T-shirt. A collarless jacket with gold buttons sits well over a fine knit and tailored trousers for work. Pair the oversized jacket with a summer dress or a hoodie at the weekend, and keep the trench coat for tailoring and colder days.

Wearing in a new jacket

New leather can feel a little stiff for the first few wears. That is normal. Wear the jacket often and move freely in it, and it will soften and start to follow your shape. If it gets wet, let it dry naturally on a hanger at room temperature, never on a radiator. Our care guide has more detail.

Buying guide

Women's leather jackets, made to order

Every women's leather jacket in this collection is cut from real leather and made to order once you buy it. You choose a size, or send us your own measurements, and we make the jacket for you. The range covers cropped bikers, collarless jackets, clean everyday black, a trench coat and a winter jacket, in sizes XS to XXL, with some styles up to XXXL.

Why a made-to-order leather jacket?

A jacket made after you order is cut to the size you need, not to whatever is left in stock. If your shoulders, sleeves or length fall between standard sizes, we can make it to your measurements at no extra cost. Real leather softens and shapes to you over time, so a jacket that fits well from the start only gets more comfortable.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Are your jackets real leather?
Yes. Every jacket is real leather or real suede. Our croc-embossed styles are genuine calf leather with the pattern pressed in, not an exotic skin.
How does made to measure work?
Select Made to measure on the product page and enter your measurements. Or leave them blank, add the jacket to your cart, and we will email you to take them before we start. It costs nothing extra.
How long does delivery take?
Each jacket is made to order and dispatched within 9–14 days. Delivery usually takes 12–18 days from purchase.
Do you deliver outside the UK?
Yes. UK delivery is free, the US is £25, and the EU, Canada, Australia, the Middle East and the rest of the world are £30. Some countries, such as Canada and Switzerland, may collect import charges on delivery.
Can I return my jacket?
Standard sizes can be returned within 30 days for a refund or exchange, and you pay the return postage. Made-to-measure jackets cannot be returned.
How do I choose the right size women's leather jacket?
Most styles come in XS to XXL, and some go up to XXXL. Check our size guide; if you are between sizes or want room for thick knits, choose made to measure.
How should a leather jacket fit women?
Close to the body without pulling. The shoulder seams should sit at the edge of your shoulders, the sleeves should end at your wrist bone, and the jacket should close comfortably over the bust with room for a thin top underneath. Cropped jackets should finish at or just above the waist; trench coats and blazers can sit a little looser. Leather softens and moulds to you with wear, so a close fit at first is normal.
How do I measure for a women's leather jacket?
Use a soft tape and measure over a thin top. Take four measurements: shoulder, across the back from one shoulder point to the other; sleeves, from the shoulder point to the wrist bone with your arm relaxed; bust, around the fullest part, under the arms, with the tape level; and length, from the base of the collar at the back down to where you want the jacket to end. For a cropped style, measure to just above your waist. Our size guide shows where to measure.
